Legally Blonde star Ali Larter has revealed why she stepped back from Los Angeles after the pandemic.

The actor, 49, is known for her breakout role in Varsity Blues and going on to star in the likes of Final Destination, Legally Blonde and Heroes.

Despite moving to LA to pursue acting in the early 2000s, Larter made a conscious decision during COVID to relocate her family to Sun Valley, Idaho, in 2022.

What was originally planned as a short stay turned into a permanent move because she and her husband Hayes MacArthur much preferred the quiet life.

“We fell in love with the beauty of the mountains and their quiet grandness,” the mum-of-two told Rue last year.

“Neither of us had ever lived in a small town before.

“People look out for each other. There’s a real sense of community here and we’re so happy to be a part of it.

“Looking at the mountains relaxes and inspires me.”

She added: “Most of the time in my life, I feel like I’m going 1,000 miles an hour and these giant rocks chill me out.”

Although Larter has gotten used to country life, it has not put a stop to her career. She plays a confident housewife in Paramount+ series Landman.

The American drama series is set in the oilfields of West Texas and follows Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), a seasoned landman who navigates the cut-throat business of oil exploration during the fuel boom.

The story blends the realities of oil-industry life with Norris’ legal battles and relationships.

Larter stars as Angela Norris, the fiery, outspoken ex-wife of Billy Bob Thornton’s character

She explained to People that Angela is a character who is ‘so physical and loves the spray tans, and the blonde’.

“But no matter what, it’s like, I’ve got to spend all this time fighting off my own insecurities, my own anxiety, to be able to put on that bikini and walk into these scenes,” she said.

“I don’t think there’s an actress alive that’s like, ‘Woo! Got a bikini scene!’

“Those are the hardest for me. I don’t enjoy them. It’s just part of the story that I’m telling, and I’m an actress, so I get on board. But those are definitely my least favourite.”

Ahead of the season two premiere, she opened up about how much effort goes into staying in shape to play Angela.

“I work really hard, okay? I’m not pretending that I don’t,” she said.

“I’m up at 4:30 [a.m.] on Mondays. I go for a run. It’s only 30 minutes,” she said.

“I try to eat very clean, but I eat. I’m one of those protein mommies. I eat so much protein, all day long. It works for me.”

Seasons one and two of Landman are streaming now on Paramount+.
