The 81-year-old rocker brought the streets of London’s West End to a standstill this weekend
Rod Stewart surprised fans in London on Saturday with a pop-up performance inside an unusual vehicle, bringing the bustling streets of the West End to a standstill. The 81-year-old music legend performed his iconic hits from inside a caravan on Denmark Street, capturing the attention of both longtime fans and passersby.
The Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? singer took to the streets alongside his whisky company, Wolfie’s Whisky, performing from a caravan which was decorated with bold yellow lettering spelling out Wolfie’s, while the roof proudly displayed the text, The Wild Ones Jukebox. The unusual setup perfectly matched the playful and rebellious spirit of the whisky brand he co-founded with friend and businessman Duncan Frew.
During the performance, Rod sang classic hits such as Maggie May and Ooh La La, accompanied by a small band featuring a guitarist and a tambourine player. Fans gathered quickly, forming a lively crowd along the historic street, while Wolfie’s team handed out samples of the original blended Scotch Malt whisky, giving onlookers a taste of the rock ’n’ roll-inspired spirit.
Rod’s family also appeared to be part of the crowd, with his wife, Penny Lancaster, seen walking alongside him to the caravan. His son, 20-year-old Alastair, showed his support by sharing photos from the pop-up gig on his Instagram profile.
Denmark Street is steeped in musical history, making it the ideal location for Stewart’s spontaneous gig. The street has been home to legendary acts such as the Sex Pistols and saw the Rolling Stones record their first album.
Over the decades, it has hosted music icons including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan and David Bowie, making it a fitting backdrop for a whisky launch celebrating rock ‘n’ roll heritage. Rod Stewart founded Wolfie’s Whisky in the summer of 2023 with Duncan Frew.
The whisky is described as Scottish whisky with a rock ‘n’ roll edge, designed to break away from the traditional rules of Scotch.
On Wolfie’s Whisky’s official website, the story behind the brand is shared: “After watching a tense game of Scottish football, our head honchos Sir Rod Stewart & Duncan Frew mused over the lack of excitement from any of the whisky bottles behind the bar.
“Where’s the fun? Where’s the hell raiser? Where’s the rascal? And boom… Wolfie’s was born – a rock ‘n’ roll whisky inspired by a time when rock stars knew how to be rock stars.
“Wolfie’s is serving up Scottish whisky with a rock ‘n’ roll edge… we’re not bound by the traditional rules of Scotch and we do things our own way.”
Describing the whisky, Rod states: “For me Wolfie’s depicts the carefree behaviour of my more mischievous days and the excitement of what life still has to offer – let the good times roll!”
