Tech Explained: Here’s a simplified explanation of the latest technology update around Tech Explained: X Investigates Racist Post Allegedly Produced by Grok AI Chatbot in Simple Termsand what it means for users..
JAKARTA – The X social media platform is investigating an offensive post allegedly generated by the Grok artificial intelligence chatbot owned by the xAI company. This investigation was carried out after reports emerged that the chatbot produced racist and hateful content in response to user questions.
The report was first revealed by the British media, Sky News, on Sunday, March 8, 2026. In the report it was stated that the X security team was conducting an urgent investigation into Grok’s possible role in producing problematic uploads circulating on the platform.
Sky News reporter Rob Harris said the platform was looking into how the chatbot was able to produce content that was deemed to be in violation of the rules.
“X’s security team is conducting an urgent investigation into the role of this chatbot in generating hateful and racist posts online in response to user commands,” Harris said in a video uploaded to Sky News’ official account on the X platform.
Until this news was written, the X platform and the chatbot development company, xAI, have not given an official response to the media’s request for comment.
This case adds to the list of highlights against the artificial intelligence-based chatbots of technology companies that are increasingly used by the public. Grok chatbot itself is a generative AI service developed by the company owned by technology billionaire Elon Musk.
In recent months, various governments and regulators in a number of countries have increased surveillance of AI-generated content, especially related to illegal or inappropriate material. Grok has also previously been in the spotlight for producing sexually explicit content.
In response to regulatory pressure, in January xAI stated that it had tightened a number of features on Grok. The company limited the ability to edit images and blocked users in certain locations from being able to create images of people with overly revealing clothing in regions that prohibit such content.
However, xAI did not disclose which countries were included in the restrictions.
X’s latest investigation shows growing concern over the risk of harmful content that generative AI technology can produce, especially when the system responds directly to commands from users on social media platforms.
