AI-RAN group ORAN Development Company (ODC) raised $45 million in a funding round, securing investment from a number of telecoms and technology heavyweights including Nokia, Nvidia, AT&T and MTN Group.

Based in the US, ODC describes itself as a pioneer in AI-native RAN with its Odyssey RAN technology platform.

Cisco, Booz Allen and Telecom Italia were also part of the funding round, joining financial groups Phoenix Venture Partners and affiliates of Cerberus Capital Management.

ODC stated the collaboration “accelerates” the deployment of the world’s first AI-native open architecture platform, which it called the “definitive’ US-based RAN stack to structurally unify communication sensing and edge intelligence.

It added it is currently partnering with “top-tier global customers” and expects to increase these tie-ups and other commercial deals throughout this year.

ODC pointed to work around a distributed commercial grid, which it called an essential AI processing engine.

The infrastructure serves as the sovereign fabric for the AI-native era, transforming cell sites into high-performance compute hubs enabling autonomous agentic AI and real-time generative inference, ODC explained.

Ronnie Vasishta, SVP of Telecom at Nvidia, said the “industry is moving toward software-defined AI-native telecom networks, which will be essential for the physical AI era”.

“ODC’s AI-RAN stack is a key enabler of this shift, turning today’s 5G networks into a distributed AI computing fabric at the wireless edge,” he added.
