Samsung TV Plus introduces an AI-Integrated channel for classic K-dramas
Many popular Korean dramas from the early 2000s often look blurry and sound unclear on today’s large screens. Samsung is using generative AI-based upscaling technology to restore these low-quality dramas to ultra-high definition. As such, you can enjoy classic drams in a modern viewing environment.
The new AI-integrated channel on Samsung TV Plus features famous titles such as Autumn in My Heart, The Success Story of a Bright Girl, and Damo. Samsung says it will bring more dramas, such as Winter Sonata, Rooftop Cat, and Tomato, in the future.
Samsung’s AI upscaling technology basically upgrades the picture quality by removing visual noise and improving color accuracy. Moreover, it sharpens details to present the emotions of 2000s dramas on a high-quality screen. Thanks to its sound-quality remastering technology, the company also improves the audio experience of these classic dramas. The technology uses AI to separate characters’ voices from background noise, making dialogue clearer. It also restores low-pitched tones in voices, resulting in a more natural sound.
Apart from picture and sound improvements, Samsung is also using AI to help viewers better understand and follow each drama. For example, AI Synopsis summarizes the key plot points of each episode, allowing viewers to understand the story before watching. Likewise, AI Recap automatically summarizes key scenes from previous episodes, giving viewers a quick reminder before continuing the series.
“This launch of an AI-integrated channel is a new viewing paradigm that reconstructs the entire viewing experience, from video to audio, with AI,” said Choi Joon-heon, head of the TV Plus Group at Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business. “As a global leader in AI TV, Samsung Electronics will continue to innovate its technology.”
