Tech Explained: India’s AI Summit Marks New Era in Technology Use, Says PM Modi in Simple Terms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the significance of the India AI Impact Summit, stating that it marked a pivotal moment in how the world will harness artificial intelligence (AI). Speaking during his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, on Sunday, February 22, 2026, he noted the global interest in India’s advancements in this field. The summit took place in New Delhi and was attended by leaders from 85 countries along with representatives from three international organisations. They collectively endorsed the New Delhi Declaration, which promotes the idea that the benefits of AI should be accessible to all, encapsulated in the principle of ‘Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya’, meaning ‘Welfare for all, Happiness for all’. Modi recounted how world leaders expressed admiration for two specific demonstrations at the summit.

One showcased how AI is aiding farmers in monitoring animal health and providing constant support. The other highlighted efforts to preserve India’s rich cultural heritage digitally, revealing how ancient manuscripts are being restored and made available to future generations via technology. Modi explained the process of digitising texts, such as the Sushruta Samhita, which involves enhancing readability and translating content into various languages.

The Prime Minister unveiled three homegrown AI models during the event, showcasing India’s ambition to not only consume technology but also create it. Aside from technological advancements, Modi addressed pressing societal issues. He warned about the rise of digital fraud, urging citizens, especially the elderly and small business owners, to remain vigilant against scams. He emphasised that compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures must be adhered to exclusively through trusted banking avenues.

Modi also spoke poignantly about organ donation, sharing the story of Aalin Sherin Abraham, a ten-month-old infant from Kerala whose parents made the decision to donate her organs. He praised them for their courage, noting how this act of compassion underscores the transformative power of generosity. In discussing agriculture, he praised farmers for their innovative practices that blend tradition with modern techniques, citing successful examples from various states. He celebrated India’s emergence as the world’s largest rice producer, attributing this to advancements in quality and ease of export.

Modi reflected on the importance of cultural heritage and the need to connect India’s historical narratives with contemporary society. He concluded by addressing students preparing for examinations, encouraging them not to equate their self-worth with academic scores, and extending greetings for the upcoming celebrations of Ramzan and Holi. The address served as a reminder that India is progressing towards a future that harmoniously integrates innovation with its rich cultural legacy.
