Google has announced that Gemini’s Canvas feature in AI mode is now available for all users in the United States. The rollout by Google marks one of the biggest updates to Google Search in years as it brings advanced generate AI capabilities directly into the search experience. “Canvas in AI Mode is now available for everyone in the U.S. in English, offering a dedicated, dynamic space to organize your plans and projects over time. And Canvas is more capable than ever, with newly added support for creative writing and coding tasks. Now, you can draft documents or create custom, interactive tools right within Search,” said Google.
What is Gemini’s Canvas
Canvas in Gemini is an interactive tool for creating, refining, and sharing work. It enables users to write and edit documents or code in real time, generate drafts, and apply quick edits. Designed for seamless collaboration, it also allows easy export to Google Docs.The Gemini app will also enhance programming by supporting code generation, debugging, and explanation. Canvas streamlines coding by enabling developers to create prototypes quickly and will help students learn coding concepts. Users can generate and preview HTML/React code and web app prototypes within Canvas, making it easier to design, edit, and share projects in one place.
How it works
When users enable AI Mode in Search, they can switch into Canvas to:
- Draft emails, essays, or blog posts.
- Brainstorm ideas with AI-powered prompts.
- Generate and debug code directly in the search interface.
Google says Canvas is meant to make Search more collaborative and productive, moving beyond traditional query-and-answer results.“To make your own tool or dashboard, select the new Canvas option from the tool menu (+) in AI Mode and describe what you want to create. You’ll get a working prototype in the Canvas side panel that pulls together the freshest information from the web and Google’s Knowledge Graph. From there, you can test the functionality, toggle to view the underlying code and refine with conversational follow-ups until it does exactly what you need,” added Google.
