Match Highlights: A detailed look at the key moments, performances, and results related to Match Highlights: Skechers football cricket running performance sport strategy Sem Steijn – Key Moments..
Skechers has signed Sem Steijn — the top scorer and Player of the Season for 2024–25 in the Eredivisie, the top division of Dutch professional football — to its football roster. Steijn, an attacking midfielder with Dutch top-flight club Feyenoord who made his international debut with the Netherlands in 2025, will compete in Skechers’ SKX_2 Elite boots and appear in the brand’s European marketing campaigns.
The signing adds a prominent name to a Skechers Football roster that includes England international Harry Kane, Mohammed Kudus, Roméo Lavia, and more than a dozen other elite players across European leagues.
A 10-week sprint into elite sport
The Steijn announcement, dated March 5, arrives at the end of a concentrated sequence of performance sport moves that began in late January — a period in which Skechers has covered football, cricket, running and US mass-market broadcast in quick succession.
On January 29, the brand introduced its cricket footwear line to the UK market. First developed in India — where Jasprit Bumrah, the 2024 ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year (ICC stands for International Cricket Council), wears Skechers — the Cricket Elite style brings metal-spike performance footwear to a country where the sport has deep recreational roots.
Three days later, on February 2, Skechers ran its 13th consecutive commercial during the Big Game. The spot, featuring actress Sofía Vergara, aired immediately before kickoff on NBC. Few marketing investments in sport carry equivalent mass-market reach, and the sustained presence across more than a decade of Big Game advertising has made Skechers one of the format’s most recognizable repeat buyers.
On February 17, the brand launched the AERO Razor, a technical daily trainer built on the architecture of its earlier Razor 3 model. It introduces Hyper Burst Pro midsole cushioning and Arch Fit podiatrist-certified support. The shoe is designed to compete directly in a segment where On, Hoka and Brooks have built strong credibility with performance-oriented runners.
On the same day as the Steijn signing, Skechers also announced a shirt-front partnership with Birmingham Phoenix, one of eight franchises in The Hundred — a 100-ball cricket competition in England and Wales. The deal places Skechers branding at the centre of the Phoenix jersey from the 2026 season.
Challenging legacy brands on their own ground
Nike and Adidas remain dominant in elite football and technical running, supported by decades of performance credentials, athlete rosters and global retail reach. Skechers’ early-2026 push stands out for its speed and spread: a top scorer in the Dutch league in its boots, a cricket shirt deal in the UK, a technical running launch and sustained exposure through NFL broadcasts – all within roughly 10 weeks.
That multi-sport rollout differs from challengers such as On and Hoka, which built their credibility from a narrower performance base. Skechers is moving into several performance categories at once from a larger lifestyle and comfort business, leaning on athlete signings and event partnerships to reset perception across sports. The open question is whether that breadth reinforces the performance message or leaves it diluted. For now, the cadence and consistency of the moves point to a coordinated strategy rather than a one-off run of deals.
