A 5.9 magnitude earthquake rattled several parts of northern India on Friday night, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The brief yet noticeable tremors were experienced in regions including Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Haryana. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The NCS pinpointed the epicentre in Afghanistan, at a depth of 150 kilometers, with the earthquake striking at precisely 9.42 pm. Social media quickly filled with accounts and footage from residents, illustrating ceiling fans and lights notably shaking in their homes.

‘I hope nobody is hurt,’ expressed a concerned social media user, recounting the unsettling sight of swaying fans. In Chandigarh, resident Baldev Chand reported feeling a distinct jolt, while Ajay Kumar from Zirakpur recounted on the 11th floor of his building that the tremors, though brief, were sufficiently alarming to consider evacuation.
