PANAMA CITY, Jan 16 – In a testament to its pivotal role in global trade, Panama reported a 3.6% surge in port traffic for 2025, handling 9.9 million TEU containers, according to the country’s Maritime Authority.

The SSA Marine Manzanillo International Terminal marked a 5% increase, handling 2.9 million TEUs, while the Panama Ports Company’s Balboa terminal registered a 2% rise with 2.7 million TEU containers. Notably, the Colon Container Terminal recorded the most significant growth, spiking 10% to manage 1.7 million TEUs.

The Panama International Terminal was the only port to see a decline, down 2%. Max Florez, overseeing ports and auxiliary maritime industries, emphasized the hub’s importance for the movement of empty containers, crucial for equipment redistribution in the region.
