In a decisive move, Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde has mandated a comprehensive report, due in eight days, outlining actions against the surge of encroachments in Mumbai. This directive comes amidst growing concerns over unauthorized constructions across key areas.
The issue, raised by Legislative Council member Sachin Ahir, highlights presumed unauthorized structures in multiple Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) wards. Officials indicate that a special inquiry committee, headed by a retired judge, is nearing establishment to delve deeper into the problem.
Shinde’s call to action precedes the impending Budget session of the state legislature. Attendees of the crucial meeting in which the directive was issued included MLA Manoj Jamsutkar, BMC Additional Commissioner Dr. Avinash Dhakne, and other key officials, all poised to address this urban development crisis.
