The Karnataka government is moving forward with plans for a second international airport near Bengaluru, according to Infrastructure Minister M B Patil. A tender has been issued for a comprehensive feasibility and strategy report, he revealed on Friday.

Officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) have carried out site inspections at three shortlisted locations on the outskirts of Bangalore, identifying several challenges such as hilly terrains. The minister shared that these observations necessitated the call for a tender to address the challenges logically and effectively.

Currently, three to four firms are bidding, with decisions anticipated based on their submissions. This initiative is seen as vital for meeting the region’s growing air traffic demands, securing Karnataka’s aviation future. The report is expected within months, with subsequent steps subject to feasibility evaluations and state cabinet approval.
