Hyundai Motor India Foundation, affiliated with the automotive giant, has undertaken a significant environmental project in Kancheepuram district, transforming two local ponds. With a budget of Rs 2.63 crore, this initiative aims to enhance water access for 5,000 residents.
The project involved cleaning, deepening, and reinforcing the ponds, enhancing pathways for accessibility, and planting indigenous trees. These efforts have increased the ponds’ capacity to store 151 million litres of water.
This venture, part of the H2OPE programme, highlights Hyundai Motor India Foundation’s commitment to water conservation. The successful execution was possible with support from the village panchayat, community involvement, and Hand-in-Hand India NGO.
