The Himachal Pradesh government is intensifying efforts to enhance disaster preparedness amidst escalating climate change risks, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi announced. Speaking at a workshop’s conclusion on disaster resilience, he emphasized the importance of robust infrastructure and early warning systems in mitigating climate impacts.
The two-day workshop, titled ‘Climate Change and Disaster Risk Resilience: Himalayan Future-Lessons, Gaps, and Policy Pathways for Himachal Pradesh,’ included thematic sessions on climate adaptation and disaster risk assessment. Negi highlighted the pressing climate change effects on Himachal’s agriculture, infrastructure, and livelihoods.
Additional discussions pinpointed lessons from recent disasters, stressing integrated risk assessments. Community involvement and institutional coordination were deemed crucial as Himachal Pradesh prepares to observe Disaster Awareness Day on April 4, commemorating the 1905 Kangra earthquake.
