Severe heatwave conditions have engulfed Surendranagar and Rajkot in Gujarat, with an orange alert issued for Thursday due to soaring temperatures. The Ahmedabad Met Centre, led by Dr. Ashok Kumar Das, reported extreme heat in the Saurashtra-Kutch region, issuing a red alert for Wednesday.
Diu town, part of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, witnessed a March-high of 41.3 degrees Celsius, a staggering 10 degrees above normal. The heatwave’s grip extended to Banaskantha, Patan, and more, with orange alerts in effect, shifting to a yellow alert by Friday.
Rajkot’s temperature peaked at 42 degrees Celsius, marking it the hottest in Gujarat on Tuesday, with Ahmedabad and other areas experiencing significant temperature increases. Authorities anticipate a gradual temperature decline after two days, offering some relief to the affected regions.
