On World Wetlands Day, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa emphasized initiatives to attain Ramsar site status for Neeli Jheel at Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary. A range of events marked the celebration at Asola Bhatti and Yamuna Biodiversity Park, highlighting environmental conservation.
Minister Sirsa unveiled ambitious plans for environmental rejuvenation, aiming to plant 3.5 million saplings in the Ridge area over four years. He underscored wetlands’ role in culture and ecosystem sustainability, reaffirming government commitment to restore Delhi’s water bodies, many of which have suffered neglect.
Technological measures to capture pollutants surrounding water bodies, landfill remediation, and bio-mining processes for waste repurposing were further discussed. The ultimate goal is to eliminate ‘garbage mountains’ by 2027. Urban governance and land management were spotlighted as key to protecting cities from natural disasters.
