Delhi is set to witness a major upgrade in its water supply infrastructure with the announcement of a new water treatment plant at Chandrawal, expected to be commissioned in 2026. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed this long-awaited development during a meeting with the Delhi Jal Board.
The 105 MGD plant aims to address Delhi’s persistent water supply challenges by enhancing the quality and reliability of drinking water across the city. Despite being approved in 2012, the project faced delays due to tender issues and non-compliance with Japan International Cooperation Agency guidelines.
Once operational, the plant will cover an area of 92 square kilometers and benefit 11% of the city’s residents. The project also includes extensive pipeline replacements and infrastructural enhancements, targeting water loss reduction and ensuring the city’s future water security.
