The Delhi government is actively deliberating on renaming the Shahjahanbad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC), considering three potential new titles that reference Indraprastha, a nod to the city’s Mahabharat-era history, according to sources on Wednesday.
Names like ‘Indraprastha Virasat Punarsthaapana Nigam’ are being contemplated, underlining the shift towards recognizing historical roots. The SRDC, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is responsible for revitalizing Shahjahanabad, a city developed by Mughal emperor Shahjahan.
Officials indicated that the final decision is imminent following a recent meeting led by the chief minister. Notably, SRDC member Praveen Khandelwal proposed options such as ‘Indraprastha Redevelopment Corporation,’ reflecting a blend of heritage conservation and modern urban development. This initiative aligns with preserving existing heritage sites and enhancing public infrastructure services.
