The Delhi government has revised its Green Action Plan, aiming to plant over 70 lakh trees, shrubs, and bamboo hedges by 2026-27. This effort involves 22 departments, signifying a robust push to enhance the capital’s green cover and tackle pollution, officials announced on Wednesday.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa highlighted the initiative as part of a broader strategy to not only control pollution but significantly increase green spaces. The Department of Forests and Wildlife is spearheading the project, tracking progress via the GAP portal, reflecting a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
A detailed plantation target has been set, with major contributions expected from the Department of Forests and Wildlife, DDA, and MCD. Sirsa stressed effective monitoring and accountability as keys to ensuring the survival of these saplings while syncing with national green initiatives.
