Setting an early tone for the electoral battle in Uttar Pradesh, Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday mounted a sharp attack on the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, branding them “dynastic parties” and accusing them of keeping the state backward for decades during their rule.
Addressing the Uttar Pradesh Statehood Day ceremony in Lucknow, Shah said Opposition-led regimes had turned UP into a ‘BIMARU’ (ailing) state, while the BJP transformed it into a “breakthrough state” and a key driver of national development.
Calling Uttar Pradesh the “soul and heartbeat of India”, he said its progress was central to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of building a developed India by 2047.
“Dynastic parties can never ensure the welfare of Uttar Pradesh. Only the double-engine government at the Centre and the state can do that,” Shah said, taking direct aim at the SP and Congress.
The Home Minister stated that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had resolved to make Uttar Pradesh a developed state by 2047, adding that when India marks the centenary of its Independence, UP would stand as a key pillar of the nation’s growth story.
At the event, Shah launched the ‘One District One Cuisine’ scheme, inaugurated the Sardar Patel Industrial Area Scheme and presented awards to districts performing well under the CM YUVA programme. He also conferred the Uttar Pradesh Gaurav Samman 2025-26 on selected achievers. Adityanath and other dignitaries were present at the event.
Highlighting employment initiatives, Shah said interest-free and collateral-free loans of up to Rs 5 lakh were being provided annually to one lakh youths, with 1.3 lakh beneficiaries already receiving loans worth Rs 5,322 crore.
On the economy, Shah said Uttar Pradesh had emerged as India’s fourth-largest state economy, contributing 20 per cent of the country’s foodgrain output, recording IT exports of over Rs 82,000 crore and attracting investment proposals worth Rs 45 lakh crore, with projects worth Rs 15 lakh crore already implemented.
Claiming a major turnaround in governance, he cited improvements in law and order and welfare delivery, asserting that “the era of decline is over” and Uttar Pradesh is once again leading India’s development journey.
