Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed gratitude to Gulf nations for supporting Indian citizens amid the ongoing West Asia conflict, while asserting that India is handling the emerging global fuel crisis with resilience. He made the remarks during the 132nd episode of his radio programme Mann Ki Baat.

Highlighting the impact of the conflict, PM Modi noted that lakhs of Indian families have relatives working in the region, particularly in Gulf countries. He thanked these nations for extending assistance to over one crore Indians residing there and emphasised the need for unity during challenging times.

Urges Unity, Warns Against Politicisation

The Prime Minister urged political parties and citizens to refrain from politicising the West Asia situation or spreading rumours. Stressing that the issue concerns the interests of 140 crore Indians, he said there is no place for “self-serving politics” and called for reliance on official information.

Referring to the global situation, PM Modi said the world continues to face instability even after the COVID-19 pandemic, with fresh conflicts emerging across regions. He described the ongoing war in India’s neighbourhood as a major concern and appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and united.

Fuel Crisis, Diplomatic Outreach in Focus

Addressing concerns over rising fuel prices, PM Modi said a global crisis around petrol and diesel is developing. He attributed India’s ability to manage the situation to strong international relations and internal capabilities built over the past decade.

The conflict, which began with US-Israel strikes on Iran on February 28, has impacted regional stability and driven up crude oil prices. In response, the Centre has reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel and is accelerating the shift towards Piped Natural Gas (PNG) amid an LPG crunch.

PM Modi also held discussions with Mohammed bin Salman and Donald Trump, among other global leaders, to address the evolving situation in West Asia.
