Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Sunday accused opposition parties of repeatedly attempting to undermine India’s global standing, asserting that such politics has led to their consistent rejection by the electorate.
Speaking to reporters here, Scindia said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is steadily emerging as a major force on the global stage, even as opposition leaders continue to make remarks that, according to him, “belittle” the country.
“On one hand, under the Prime Minister’s leadership, India is emerging as a star on the global stage. On the other, opposition parties and their leaders leave no stone unturned to belittle India. That is why the people of India have repeatedly rejected them,” Scindia said.
His remarks come amid a sharp political exchange between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress over statements made by Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, during his visits abroad.
On Saturday, BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia accused Gandhi of “defaming India” during his foreign trips, alleging that he meets anti-India forces and engages in activities that go against national interests. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Bhatia said that Gandhi’s actions abroad were a matter of concern and had sparked public outrage.
“Going to foreign land and defaming India, meeting anti-India forces—this is being done by none other than the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. This is extremely concerning, and Indian citizens are outraged about it,” Bhatia said.
He also questioned Gandhi’s absence from Parliament during sessions, citing his recent visit to Germany. Bhatia claimed that instead of attending parliamentary proceedings, Gandhi travelled abroad, where he visited the Hertie School and met Professor Dr Cornelia Woll, raising questions about his priorities and intentions.

Meanwhile, the Congress party on Sunday organised protests across the country against the overhaul of the national rural employment scheme, which has been reframed as the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB–G RAM G) Act, 2025. The party has opposed the changes, alleging they dilute the original objectives of the employment guarantee programme.
