At Guruvayoor, Kerala, 2026 March 29th Sunday at 3 pm to 6 pm

Dear Friends,

The Sangh Parivar has aggressively entered the Kerala electoral arena with its insidious politics of hatred and communal division. They are deploying the very same inflammatory statements that spew communal venom in Kerala as they do across the country.

Most recently, BJP candidate, from the Guruvayur constituency in Central Kerala and prominent state leader B. Gopalakrishnan has brazenly declared that “not a single Hindu MLA has been elected from the holy city of Guruvayur.” There is no doubt that this outrageous statement constitutes a blatant violation of the Model Code of Conduct and represents a direct threat to the harmonious social coexistence that defines Kerala.

Almost a century ago, in 1931, Guruvayur became the historic site of a powerful Satyagraha led by stalwarts such as K. Kelappan, A.K. Gopalan, Krishna Pillai, K. Madhavan Nair, and Subramanian Thirumumb. They courageously demanded temple entry for all, irrespective of caste or religion. Neither the BJP leadership nor its leader B. Gopalakrishnan appears capable of grasping the profound political significance of that Satyagraha, which laid the very foundation for the landmark 1936 Temple Entry Proclamation.

It must be clearly understood that the BJP leader’s statement was not born out of mere ignorance or personal arrogance. Its roots lie deep in the upper-caste Brahminical consciousness that forms the core of the Sangh Parivar’s ideology. Therefore, it is imperative that we mount a firm, resolute, and uncompromising response against this cheap, provocative statement by the BJP leader. We must ensure that the toxic politics of hatred and division is not allowed to take root or flourish in the soil of Kerala, where people of diverse castes and religions have long lived together in peace and mutual coexistence.

It is in this critical context that the Wake Up Keralam Movement has resolved to organize yet another Satyagraha on the very soil that witnessed the historic Guruvayur Satyagraha against untouchability.

Eminent personalities including Prof. K. Sachidanandan (Poet), Prof. Sarah Joseph (Writer), Dr. Khadeeja Mumtaz (Writer), Kamal (Film Director), Prof. K.P.Shankaran (Author, Gandhian Socialist), Dr. K.P. Kaladharan (Senior Scientist), N. Madhavankutty (Senior Journalist), K.Ambujakshan (Social Activist), C.R. Neelakandan (Environmentalist), Prof. Kusumam Joseph (Activist), Prof. Susan John (Peace Activist), Sheela Tomy (Novelist), and many others will participate in the Satyagraha to be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 3 pm to 6 pm at Guruvayur Padinjare Nada (P. Krishna Pillai Square).

We earnestly appeal to the entire people of Kerala to extend their full support and active cooperation to transform this event into a powerful and resounding warning against the divisive and hateful politics of the Sangh Parivar.

(The Constitution Festival, planned for March 29, 2026 in Thrissur under the leadership of the Wake Up Keralam Movement, has been postponed due to the Prime Minister’s visit scheduled on the same day at the same venue. A new date will be announced shortly.)
