Mananthavady, Kerala: Wayanad has transformed into a mist-draped paradise, captivating visitors with its serene winter charm. Dense fog blankets the hills and valleys, so thick in places that travellers can barely see each other on the winding roads.

Usually, the region starts experiencing fog towards the end of November, but this year it has arrived early, in the first week of the month. Over the past few days, minimum temperatures have hovered between 19°C and 22°C, while the maximum temperatures ranged from 26°C to 27°C. Last November, temperatures dropped as low as 17°C to 19°C, with highs between 22°C and 29°C. Evenings have already begun to feel distinctly cooler.

The sight of trees standing tall amid the fog, mist-cloaked pathways, and shimmering water bodies has made Wayanad especially captivating for visitors. A growing number of tourists, particularly IT professionals from cities like Bengaluru and Mysuru, are escaping the urban rush to spend their holidays amid Wayanad’s tranquil landscapes.

Locals say the arrival of mist marks the retreat of the monsoon. The fine, drizzle-like fog settling across the hills can now be seen in most parts of the district. Farmers also note that the current weather is favourable for cultivation.
