Kasargod seniors enjoy multi-mode leisure trips combining flights, boat rides, and train journeys. Explore new adventures affordably!
Kanhangad, Kasaragod: Senior citizens in Kasaragod are now exploring multi-mode leisure trips, combining flights, boat rides, and train journeys. Most participants are aged between 55 and 70, and these trips are quickly becoming popular across the district.
Groups from Kudumbashree, Haritha Karmasena (HKS), and men’s self-help organizations have taken part in these journeys. Recently, 60 members of Kanhangad’s HKS flew from Kannur Airport to Thiruvananthapuram, toured the Secretariat, Kerala Legislative Assembly, Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, Raj Bhavan, and museums, and returned by train.
“Flying on a plane was a lifelong dream for many. We’re happy we could make it happen,” said B. Geethakumari and B.M. Praseen, HKS presidents.
Earlier, 45 members of the Kairali Grandhalayam Thadiyankovval Senior Citizens Club from Udinoor travelled to Bengaluru, visiting the Bengaluru Metro, ISKCON Temple, and Lalbagh Botanical Garden.
“Next, we are planning a boat trip,” said P.P. Karunakaran, library president, and A. Baburaj, secretary.
Other groups have also participated in similar trips:
24 HKS members from Kinanoor – Karinthalam flew to Kochi, toured the backwaters by boat, and returned via the Vande Bharat Express.
26 members of the Kanhangad Area Democratic Womens Association flew to Bengaluru and returned.
Kudumbashree members from Madikkai Tiyarpalam and employment-guarantee workers from Nileshwar and Chirappuram also took similar trips.
Two years ago, a Kudumbashree group from Muliyar flew 15 children from their Balasabha to Thiruvananthapuram, which helped start the trend of experiential travel for seniors in the district.
These trips often combine air, water, road, and rail travel in a single itinerary. Coordinators say the cost is reasonable, with flights to Thiruvananthapuram or Kochi under ₹7,000 per person, making the trips accessible to many senior groups.
