Health Update: Health Update: YMCA of Montclair Launches Free Veterans Wellness Initiative – What Experts Say– What Experts Say.
The YMCA of Montclair is launching the Veterans Wellness Initiative, a widely recognized YMCA program designed for military veterans and their families. Starting this April, participants will connect weekly over the course of 12 weeks, for in-person guided workouts paired with educational Zoom sessions.

Open to active-duty service members, veterans, and their spouses, partners, and family members, the free Veterans Wellness Initiative offers access to health and wellness resources along with opportunities for meaningful connection among those with shared military experience. Participants receive a complimentary 12-week family membership, access to the YMCA’s Y360 virtual wellness platform, and personalized support from staff and trainers.
Empowered with Tools, Connections
“As a veteran and the coordinator of this initiative, I’m proud to help build a space where veterans and their families can reconnect with their strength, purpose, and overall well-being,” explained Monte James, the YMCA of Montclair’s Veterans Wellness Initiative Coordinator. “While this is the beginning of the program here, the vision is clear—to foster a community rooted in support, accountability, and lasting transformation. My goal is for every participant to leave not only healthier but empowered with the tools and connections to sustain that progress for life.”
The Veterans Wellness Initiative launched in 2015 at the River Crossing YMCA’s Doylestown branch to foster community and expand wellness opportunities for veterans in Bucks County, PA. Since then, the free, donor-supported program has grown to four additional branches, serving more than 650 veterans and their families. This April marks the initiative’s debut in Montclair, New Jersey.
“Through our Veterans Wellness Initiative, the YMCA of Montclair is honored to serve those who have served us,” said Buddy Evans, President and CEO of the YMCA of Montclair. “We are committed to creating a supportive community where veterans can strengthen their health, rebuild connections, and find a renewed sense of purpose.”
