Health Update: Health Update: Wellness Day promotes healthy habits at Chenango Bridge Elementary School – What Experts Say– What Experts Say.

CHENANGO BRIDGE, N.Y. (WBNG) — Chenango Bridge Elementary School hosted “Wellness Day” on Thursday, teaching students about the importance of healthy lifestyles and general well-being.

The school partnered with community organizations such as the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, BOCES, Binghamton University, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County and Dance Intentions for engaging and interactive sessions that encouraged students to make positive choices.

Chenango Bridge Elementary principal Jennifer Yurko said activities like these are imperative to the educational experience at the school.

“It’s just really important for us as a school community that we not only focus on academics, but there’s so much more that happens within our walls, which is really developing the full child through social-emotional learning,” said Yurko. “And what better way to do that than having them engage in learning in a different, hands-on, fun way for students going into spring break.”

Featured activities included a hip-hop dance class, healthy snack making and flower planting.

Other schools in the district will host similar Wellness Day programs throughout the year.
