Health Update:Health Update: Medical oversight gains ground in wellness as VLCC receives IMA recommendation for weight management – What Experts Say– What Experts Say.
VLCC said it has become the first organised wellness brand in India to receive the Indian Medical Association recommendation for weight management, slimming and metabolic wellness services, with Vikas Gupta, MD & CEO, VLCC Group, linking the development to physician led protocols and structured metabolic assessments, while Dr. Anilkumar J Nayak, National President IMA, stressed the need for safety led frameworks as wellness increasingly intersects with metabolic health.
Medical oversight is becoming a sharper point of distinction in India’s wellness sector, with VLCC receiving a recommendation from the Indian Medical Association for its weight management, slimming and metabolic wellness services. According to the company, the move makes it the first organised wellness brand in the country to receive such a recommendation. VLCC said the Weight Management and Wellness Program approval followed due diligence as well as a process and technical expertise audit by IMA, covering the company’s wellness and weight management delivery process and the results linked to it.
The recommendation recognises VLCC’s physician led protocols, structured metabolic assessments and science backed programme design, placing the company within a more formal medical governance framework as preventive healthcare and consumer wellness continue to converge. For more than 35 years, VLCC has built its model around clinically supervised weight management and evidence based interventions. The recommendation places that legacy within a nationally recognised medical framework at a time when consumer awareness around obesity, metabolic health and preventive care is expanding.
Vikas Gupta, MD & CEO, VLCC Group, said, “From inception, VLCC has approached weight management as a medical and metabolic science not a cosmetic trend. This recommendation affirms the robustness of our clinical protocols and our long-standing commitment to safety, scientific rigor and measurable outcomes.” The development comes as India’s wellness sector continues to grow, with medical oversight and standardised frameworks emerging as important markers of credibility. By securing IMA recommendation, VLCC said it has embedded the validation of a nationally recognised medical body into its operational model for structured weight management services.
An IMA office bearer noted that structured clinical governance in wellness services strengthens consumer confidence and supports alignment with sound medical principles as weight management increasingly overlaps with metabolic and preventive health. With 219 plus clinics across 114 plus cities, VLCC said it has delivered medically supervised wellness services to over 10 million consumers over three decades. The company said the recommendation reinforces its integrated model combining medical assessment, nutrition science, fitness protocols and behavioural support under expert supervision. Industry observers view the move as a defining moment in the formalisation of India’s wellness ecosystem, signalling a shift toward medically anchored and safety led frameworks in preventive health and metabolic management. Gupta added, “Wellness must be responsible. As the category evolves, credibility and clinical governance will define long-term leadership. At VLCC, that commitment has been foundational and this recommendation strengthens it further.”
Dr. Anilkumar J Nayak, National President IMA, mentioned that as weight loss interventions increasingly intersect with medical and metabolic health, safety led frameworks are critical. He added that initiatives like this ensure wellness solutions align with sound medical principles and appreciated VLCC’s leadership in driving responsible industry practices to help Indians achieve their desired body outcomes safely.
