Officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) joined other law enforcement agencies for an interdepartmental wellness day at Modderbee Sports Field on March 20.

The initiative, led by EMPD, aimed to promote teamwork, physical fitness and mental well-being among officers working in high-pressure environments.

Participants from various departments took part in a range of sporting and recreational activities, including soccer, netball, hiking and shooting, as well as team-based challenges.

According to a statement released by EMPD, the event provided a valuable platform to strengthen collaboration between agencies while encouraging officers to prioritise their mental health.

It also created an opportunity for participants to interact socially outside their usual work environment.

Participants displayed strong team spirit and sportsmanship throughout the day, underscoring the importance of unity and resilience within law enforcement.

EMPD stood out in the results, securing first place in hiking, tennis and soccer, while the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department claimed top honours in netball.

EMPD said the wellness day highlighted the importance of maintaining both physical and mental health, particularly in demanding professions such as policing. The event also reinforced the value of interdepartmental co-operation in improving efficiency and morale.

The department added that similar initiatives will continue to support employee well-being while strengthening working relationships across agencies.
