CVIMS Newcomer Wellness Fair returns to Beban Park for 2026

The Newcomer Wellness Fair is back again to help people new to Nanaimo connect with health, wellness, community resources and meet the people who supply those services.
This year’s fair features information booths, community organizations, and services focused on physical health, mental wellness, family services, and social connection, according to a CVIMS press release.
As in previous years, the event will be held in the Beban Park Social Centre auditorium where Snuneymuxw Elder Lolly Good will open with a blessing, followed with cultural performances and wellness demonstrations, plus educational presentations by Dr. Adam Hoverman, with Wellington Medical Clinic, and Samer Qasem, with Wallace Pharmacy.
Interpretation and culturally responsive supports will also be on hand to help ensure accessibility for diverse participants.
“CVIMS is committed to fostering a healthy, connected, and inclusive community,” Angelika Valchar, CVIMS executive director, said in the release. “This wellness fair is an opportunity for newcomers to feel welcomed, informed, and supported as they build their lives on Vancouver Island.”
The free admission event happens Thursday, Feb. 5, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Beban Park Social Centre. and is open to newcomers, service providers, and community members who want to learn more about newcomer wellness and support services in the region.
Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting immigrants, refugees, and newcomers through settlement services, community engagement, and inclusive programming.
