Health Update: Health Update: Community gets free screenings, health education at Gadsden wellness fair – What Experts Say– What Experts Say.

HAVANA, Fla. (WCTV) – Dozens of people in Gadsden County got free screenings as part of a community health and wellness fair in Havana on Saturday.

“Gadsden County has consistently kind of ranked in the lower margins for higher rates of cancers, diabetes, chronic preventable conditions,” Dr. Camron Browning said.

“So it’s very important for us to have a day of empowerment, a day of education, a day of free health screenings to bring more awareness to the community.”

Saturday’s free health fair kicked off with the “Walk with a Doc” series. There was also a yoga class, a CPR course, health education workshops, and mental health sessions.

More news out of the Big Bend:

Browning returned to Havana last year to provide medical care for his hometown. He said this health and wellness day is important to get people the proper care they need.

“Growing up being a native of Havana, unfortunately, I’ve had firsthand experiences of the disparities and the problems with access,” Browning said. “For some of us, it can take more than an hour to make it to Tallahassee. Some people don’t have the financial capabilities, they don’t have the transportation.”

Access is a problem, Browning said and he hopes to help mitigate it for people in the community.

“This is important for me to see the community come together because, ultimately, we want to be able to improve the healthcare landscape of this community,” Browning said.

This was the first event for Browning Medical and Wellness, and Browning said the goal is to have community health and wellness days more often.
