Health Update: Health Update: Bella Health & Wellness co-founder testifies at Religious Liberty Commission – What Experts Say– What Experts Say.
WASHINGTON – Becket client Abby Sinnett, co-founder and CEO of Bella Health and Wellness, testified today before the Department of Justice’s Religious Liberty Commission at its hearing on religious liberty in healthcare and social services. Sinnett told the story of Bella, the Denver-area Catholic pro-life healthcare clinic Colorado targeted for offering abortion pill reversal. Bella successfully challenged the state’s efforts and, during the course of litigation, helped numerous women continue their pregnancies, resulting in the birth of 20 babies.
“Twenty precious babies are growing, laughing, and thriving today because their mothers got the right care at the right time,” said Abby Sinnett, co-founder and CEO of Bella Health and Wellness. “Their smiling faces are proof that every life is a miracle, and that women who want help saving their unborn children aren’t alone. Bella will always be here for them.”
Becket represented Bella Health and Wellness, defending them against a Colorado law making it illegal for doctors and nurses to help women who take the first abortion pill but then decide to continue their pregnancies. A federal court temporarily blocked the law in 2023, and last year the court made that protection permanent. This protection means that Bella can continue serving the many women who come to them for help to continue their pregnancies.
“Abby’s powerful testimony is exactly what the Religious Liberty Commission needs to hear,” said Rebekah Ricketts, senior counsel at Becket and an attorney for Bella Health and Wellness. “Behind every religious freedom struggle are real people whose real lives and deepest convictions are on the line. For Bella and the women they serve, that struggle was literally a matter of life and death.”

The Religious Liberty Commission was established by Executive Order 14291 and provides guidance to the White House on the ways to promote and protect religious freedom in American life.
