Why This Matters:
Health disparities in the Black and underserved communities lead to a lower quality of life and shorter lifespans.
For example:
- Heart disease and Stroke: Heart disease and stroke are leading causes of death, with Black Americans facing significantly higher risks due to elevated rates of high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity. Adults aged 18-49 are twice as likely to die from heart disease compared to their white counterparts. (American Heart Association, CDC)
- Maternal Health: Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications, often linked to systemic inequities and unequal access to care. (CDC)
- Cancer Disparities: Black Americans have the highest death rates and shortest survival for most cancer types. (American Cancer Society)
- Estate Planning: Over 70% of Black Americans lack a will or estate plan, leaving
families without clear protections.
