Following in the footsteps of other Irish greats, Daryl McCormack’s name has been popping up everywhere in recent times.
Previously nominated for an IFTA and a BAFTA in the Rising Star category, he’s starred alongside Emma Thompson in Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones in Twisters, and the star-studded cast of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
As Daryl is cast in a new Apple TV+ thriller with Elle Fanning and Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd, here’s everything we know about Daryl:
Background

Daryl McCormack is a native of Nenagh, Co Tipperary, born to an Irish mother and African-American father who met in California.
After falling pregnant with Daryl, his mum moved back to Ireland to raise her son, who was born on January 22, 1993.

Although Daryl was raised away from his dad, he still maintained a good relationship with his paternal family, especially his grandfather, with whom he used to visit the theatre, sparking his love for acting.
Daryl’s interest in acting led him to the Dublin Institute of Technology’s Conservatory and the Gaiety School of Acting, from which he graduated in 2014 with a BA in Drama.
Career

Daryl’s first professional role came in 2014, when he was cast in the play The Grapes of Wrath at the project Arts Centre.
The following year saw the actor making his TV debut on Fair City as Pierce Devlin which introduced him to the people of Ireland for the first time.
He was cast in multiple plays in Ireland before he arrived on the West End scene in 2018 when Martin McDonagh handed him a role in his play, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, before he returned to TV screens in Peaky Blinders as Isaiah Jesus in 2019.

2022 was a successful year for Daryl, as he landed a part alongside Emma Thompson in the film Good Luck to You, Leo Grande which earned him two BAFTA nominations, including a Rising Star nod.
He also landed a role in Sharon Horgan’s BAFTA-winning series Bad Sisters, in which he made a comeback for its second series.

Daryl later starred in the six-part mystery drama series The Woman in the Wall and has a role in the thriller Anniversary.
The 33-year-old was also cast in Netflix’s Wake Up Dead Man, a Knives Out Mystery, alongside fellow Irish actor Andrew Scott, a role we’re predicting will take his career to new heights.
Daryl’s next project with Apple TV+ will see him play the heir to an international conglomerate, Kar, who Elle Fanning’s character is involved with.
Her character is said to be ‘conflicted between her mission and a belief that her principal target, the heir apparent to all that corrupt power, is at his core a good man and worthy of her love.’
Relationship status

The 32-year-old keeps many aspects of his life private and barely has a social media presence, so not much is known about Daryl’s current love interest.
Daryl hard launched his romance on December 16, 2024, sharing a sweet black-and-white selfie of him and his love sharing a smooch.
The most information Daryl has spilled regarding his relationship status in the past was in an interview with The Guardian where he told them ‘I’m focusing on myself’ in February 2023.
Daryl once dated fellow Irish actor India Mullen in 2015 and has kept any info on his love life on the down-low since.
Interests

Daryl has expressed his love for music and, obviously, film. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actor listed an eclectic mix of Frank Sinatra, Novo Amor and Hailaker as his ultimate faves.
He also admitted to his unusual habit of singing in public places while he listens to music, saying: ‘When I’m in that place I’m happiest.’
When asked about his top three favourite films, Daryl replied: ‘Parasite, Oslo, August 31st, and Titanic.’
