The question of whether extra-terrestrials exist has captivated humanity for centuries, and now, we may have some official insights.
Former US President Barack Obama recently shocked millions when he expressed his belief in the existence of aliens.
In an interview with US political podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen, Obama was asked if he believes in aliens.
He responded, “They’re real, but I haven’t seen them.”
“They are not being kept in Area 51. There’s no underground facility. Unless there’s this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States,” he added.
Obama revealed that the first question he faced upon becoming president was whether aliens exist, underscoring the significance of this topic for many.
The interview garnered 5.5 million views on YouTube, and a clip of the question trended on TikTok, reaching 6.6 million views.
Netizens had varied reactions to the video. This is what they had to say:
@layland181 commented: “It would be extremely selfish of the human race to think we are the only living things in the universe.”
@asobermaroon added: “Why do people act so shocked that an intelligent man is saying aliens are real? The OBVIOUS answer is, yes, there are other planets that hold life.”
@kaicee.jones remarked: “Of course they’re real. People really think we’re out here alone? We’re aliens to the aliens.”
While @usernzz5o45jsa stated: “Of course aliens are real; it’s obvious for anyone who is aware of the scale of the observable universe. Do they visit us or even know about us is a different question.”
Following the controversy surrounding his statement, Obama took to Instagram to clarify his remarks.
“I was trying to stick with the spirit of the speed round, but since it’s gotten attention, let me clarify. Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there.
“But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!” he explained.
On February 19, current US President Donald Trump also weighed in on this controversial topic.
He accused Obama of divulging classified information with his claim that aliens are “real”.
“He gave classified information. He’s not supposed to be doing that,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.
“I don’t know if they’re real or not. I can tell you he gave classified information. He’s not supposed to be doing that. He made a big mistake.”
Trump added that he does not have a personal opinion on whether aliens exist, stating, “I never talk about it. A lot of people do. A lot of people believe it.”
This ongoing debate about the existence of extra-terrestrials continues to intrigue the public, with opinions varying widely among prominent figures and everyday citizens alike.
