Did our English teacher and gym teacher already get married?
That’s what fans are wondering after Taylor Swift was referred to as “your wife” in a conversation with Travis Kelce — and he didn’t correct the narrative.
On the Wednesday episode of the New Heights podcast, Travis and his brother Jason Kelce were joking about Travis going back to college to play basketball in an interview with Jerrod Calhoun, head coach for the University of Cincinnati’s men’s team.
“Man, you’re getting me fired up right now, coach,” enthused Travis, who played basketball (in addition to football, of course) at Cleveland High School two decades ago. “I think I got like one semester left of eligibility.”
“You gotta ask your wife,” replied Calhoun with a smirk.
Travis laughed, and joked about how that conversation might go down with Swift: “Sweetie, I’m going back to school.”
The passing comment sparked marriage rumors on social media, flamed by X fan account The Taylor Swift Updates. “THE WEDDING HAPPENED? Travis Kelce seemingly confirmed on New Heights that he’s now MARRIED to Taylor Swift.”
As the post exceeded 700,000 views, some fans wondered if it was an April Fools joke.
Representatives for Swift and Kelce did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment on the marriage rumors.
It’s not the first time a passing comment sparked marriage rumors.
In October 2024, when the couple was still only dating, Troy Aikman accidentally referred to Swift as “the missus” during ESPN’s broadcast of the Kansas City Chiefs-New Orleans Saints game.
“You know they’re not married,” asked play-by-play announcer Joe Buck.
“Oh, I know,” Aikman confessed with a laugh. “I’m sure I’m in trouble for saying that.”

Ten months later, Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on social media with a carousel of photos from the romantic proposal. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift captioned the post, a nod to “So High School,” her musical ode to Kelce on The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology.

At the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards on March 26, Swift credited Kelce for influencing The Life of a Showgirl, which won Album of the Year.
“This album probably also feels very happy and confident and free,” she said, “because that’s the way that I get to feel every single day of my life because of my fiancé who’s here tonight.”
