AI actors, they’re just like us!
Or at least they try to be.
More from Deadline
The studio behind controversial AI actress Tilly Norwood, Xicoia, has hired its “leading architect of the Tillyverse.”
Mark Whelan, who joined from Amazon’s Prime Video, has been brought in to work on the “rapid expansion of AI actor Tilly Norwood and the launch of the Tillyverse, a dynamic, constantly evolving digital universe where Tilly and a new generation of AI characters will live, collaborate and build careers.”
Norwood has attracted the ire of big Hollywood stars and unions. Speaking exclusively to Deadline last year, Eline van der Velden, who runs Xicoia and Particle6, stressed AI actors will never replace real actors.
But that doesn’t mean they won’t imitate them.
“Tilly Norwood isn’t just an AI character,” van der Velden asserted recently. “She’s a personality, a brand, and a future global superstar with a compelling narrative arc. Mark will help us craft and shape every layer of her world, from her humour, daily life and career choices to how she interacts with fans across various platforms.”
What might that look like?
Particle6 has created a slew of images that seem to place the faux celebrity in some of the same relatable contexts in which we’re used to seeing real-life actresses, giving Tilly a more human vibe.
