Variety is really mixing it up this week with the Meghan Markle/Netflix story. It’s worth a read because the headlines are “Ted Sarandos won’t speak to Meghan without a lawyer present” but the details are much more interesting than the clickbait. The claims – that the Sussexes rely too much on their royal exit story, they talk the talk but don’t produce tangibles, they play multiple sides when doling out exclusives and executives have really cooled on working with them – well, it fits with what has been reported about them over the last couple of years.

It is aligned with the Vanity Fair and The Hollywood Reporter stories. As a production company, Archewell now has a reputation for being unfocused and unproductive. The output just isn’t there. Some of the claims are also swatted down as “categorically untrue” by Netflix and the Sussexes push back on it as a continued negative narrative directed at Meghan.

Variety ran a piece on Jake Shane’s red carpet reporting for Vanity Fair and this is media-on-media inside baseball. There is a valid discussion about how influencers and gimmicky interview set-ups have eroded entertainment media and detracts from really good red carpet reporters… but I do think there’s also a pile-on happening with Jake Shane. Variety benefits from it because their red carpet reporter has had a few issues over the last few months as well.

Jeans and a grey sweater and still cooler than most magazine covers.

There’s a lot of joking about the Bozos and how they looked on the red carpet, people gleefully predicting a divorce. I don’t think they are getting a divorce, I just think they are rotten and ugly on the inside and that seeps through their physical being. How does she make John Galliano look like Temu.

Emma Stone is the unofficial seatmate of Oscar winning families. I like this role for her, she is great for it – enthusiastic without pulling focus.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: something is off with Gwyneth Paltrow. This Armani dress was not her best showing – she wore the white Tom Ford with the cape in 2012 and it was so memorable that this pales in comparison. Same with the sheer paneling, she’s done it so many times.
