Sydney Sweeney opened up about her dating struggles, revealing a man she really liked told her he couldn’t handle her world of success and strong female friendships

Sydney Sweeney believes her circle of friends can be “very intimidating to a lot of guys”.

The 28-year-old actress, who has been romantically linked to Scooter Braun, has kept quiet about her relationships, but she has opened up about how a prospective boyfriend rejected her because he couldn’t “handle her world”.

She told Cosmopolitan magazine: “Look, I am a boss in my life. I take control. I go after what I want. I am confident, successful, and I don’t actually need a man. “I’ve got myself. I’ve got an incredible group of girlfriends.

I’ve got a team of bada– women. That is very intimidating to a lot of guys, so a guy needs to be able to stand in that with me.

“It takes a very specific person who can handle the world that comes with me. There was a guy who I really, really liked, but he told me he can’t handle my world. It’s a hard thing.”

The “Euphoria” star did share what qualities she seeks in a partner, and there are several important factors to consider.

She said: “Athletic and outgoing and funny. I’m a sporty girl, so someone needs to be able to climb a mountain with me, go skydiving with me. And someone who loves their family.”

Still, Sydney emphasized there are no rigid stereotypes people must conform to based on her romantic comedy roles, though her mother believes she should broaden her options.

She added: “I wouldn’t ever be like, ‘Okay, this guy needs to do exactly what this character did or make me feel exactly how this character made me feel.’

“The other day, my mom and I were talking about guys, and I was like, ‘Well, he’s not really my type.’ And she goes, ‘Well, maybe your type’s not working out for you, Syd.'”

“Maybe I need to be open to other experiences and try not to put everything in this exact box of what I think I need.”

Sydney has been linked to Scooter Braun recently after her split from long-term fiancé Jonathan Davino. The pair called off their engagement in March 2025 after first being linked in 2018.

Nearly six months after her breakup from Davino, Sweeney and Scooter Braun sparked dating speculation after the twosome was spotted together at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding in Italy.
