Cher thinks her friend and former costar Kristen Bell can do better than Dax Shepard — and she isn’t afraid to say that right to his face.
The music icon, who starred alongside Bell in the 2010 cult classic Burlesque, recently paid a visit to the couple on Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. When the host took a moment to voice how grateful he feels for his family with Bell, Cher didn’t hold her tongue.
“You’re lucky,” the “Believe” singer made sure to remind him. “She’s definitely the better half.”
For his part, Shepard didn’t shy away from the fact that he knows Cher isn’t his number one fan.
“Who would you like to see Kristen with?” he later asked the singer. “Who would be your dream partner for her? ‘Cause I know you think she could be better, and I don’t disagree. Who would be your pick?”

Put on the spot, Cher admitted that she didn’t have any names at the ready, while Bell laughed off the question.
“He’s being self-deprecating right now,” said the Veronica Mars star. “She’s never thought about that.”
Though Cher didn’t have a list of eligible bachelors ready, she did have a response to Shepard’s question: “The truth is, I trust her,” she said of Bell. “So you must have something that I don’t see.”
Bell and Shepard were already engaged when Cher befriended the actress during the making of Burlesque. After six years together, the couple tied the knot in 2013, seven months after welcoming their first child together, Lincoln. They welcomed their second daughter, Delta, in 2014.
In all those years, Shepard hasn’t quite managed to impress Cher, but that doesn’t mean he’s done trying.
Later in their conversation, he appealed to the Grammy winner by sharing, “I’ll tell you the thing that you should like about me — I’m not threatened by her shining. The shinier she gets the better.”
Cher said that the same is true of her own partner, music executive Alexander AE Edwards.
“Alexander is that way too,” she said. “The more I shine, the more he has fun.”

By the end of their conversation, Shepard made it clear that Cher’s disapproval doesn’t affect his admiration of the superstar.
“Cher, I adore you and I understand: Nobody’s good enough for her,” he said of Bell.
Meanwhile, his wife made one final appeal on his behalf, assuring Cher, “Trust me, he’s a slow burn, but you’re gonna learn to love him. He’s almost too good for me.”

Cher eventually paid the Parenthood actor one compliment, noting, “You seem like a good dad.”
Again, Shepard couldn’t help but offer a self-deprecating response.
“I put on a good show when the guests are here,” he quipped, referencing a moment he shared with his daughter off camera. “That was the first hug I’d given my daughter in two years. Just because you were here. I wanted to impress you.”
