Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes just made a very rare public appearance together – their first one in over 10 years.

The 45-year-old Barbie actor and 52-year-old Training Day star have had an ultra-private 11-year-long romance, after they first sparked dating rumours in 2011 while filming The Place Beyond the Pines.

Since then, unlike most other celebrity couples, they’ve largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight.

We didn’t even know they’d gotten married until Mendes confirmed they secretly tied the knot in a passing comment in November 2022. During a guest appearance on Channel 9’s Today in Australia, she nonchalantly referred to The Notebook actor as her husband.

They went on to welcome two daughters together, Esmeralda Amada, 11, and Amada Lee, nine, and as we say, have kept all of this completely out of the public eye.

But they had their first public appearance together in over a decade on Thursday (March 5). You can watch it unfold here:

The duo’s appearance was on TV as they graced our screens on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon – and it was all to celebrate Mendes’ 52nd birthday.

Gosling was on the talk show to promote his latest film, Project Hail Mary, which is poised to be the sci-fi film of the year and is due to be released on 20 March.

He then decided to surprise his wife and asked the audience if they would sing to Mendes, who was backstage.

A staff member went off to find her Mendes, and as she made her way over to him on the stage, the actor joked, “Here’s the thing, you might find me in the Hudson River tomorrow.”

She walked out wearing none other than Gosling’s blue and white striped Louis Vuitton cardigan, to a cheering audience.

Gosling grabbed her hand, and they walked to the middle of the stage, before she took a moment to thank the teachers and students who were in the audience, before asking Fallon: “You’ll cut us this right?”

For context, in honor of Gosling playing a middle school teacher in his new movie, he invited an audience full of teachers to the show.

“No!” Fallon laughed before adding, “This is your day, this is your birthday!”

Gosling and Fallon then declared that they had something special lined up to celebrate Mendes’ big day, and pointed out a marching band in the crowd who were going to perform for her.

Suddenly, the curtains opened behind them, and the whole band was there with confetti cannons and a giant sign reading: “Happy Birthday, Eva!”

They sang Happy Birthday to the unsuspecting actress, along with the whole audience, before Fallon declared that it was all down to Gosling. Talk about setting the bar high.

Mendes sweetly thanked her husband with a kiss on the cheek while the crowd cheered.

As we say, the moment came over 10 years after the couple walked a red carpet together in 2013 for the New York City premiere of The Place Beyond The Pines.

Gushing over the adorable moment, one X user penned: “Omg, they are so cute. And she is so beautiful.”

While a second added: “Haha, Ryan’s surprise game strong! Happy bday Eva!”

And a third quipped: “It is so surreal seeing Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes next to each other, it’s been so long it feels illegal.”
