Rihanna was hit by a restaurant door in New York after her bodyguard failed to hold it, leaving her to blurt out a five-word response that was caught on camera
Rihanna kept her cool after getting clipped by a restaurant door this week, but not without a sharp five-word message for the bodyguard who let it happen.
“Such a gentleman you are,” Rihanna said, after her security failed to hold open a restaurant door as she approached. The door retracked and hit her mid-step. The awkward moment, caught on camera, was brief and sent fans into a frenzy on X.
The blunder came as the 37-year-old pop superstar’s partner and father of her three children, A$AP Rocky, prepared to make his SNL debut after releasing his fourth album, Don’t Be Dumb, on Friday, January 16.

“He is her bodyguard, not boyfriend – she should get the difference,” one user penned, adding, “I think he’s fired tho.” Another wrote, “he should’ve just reached back without thinking.. i need a man who knows how to do the simple things without being asked to.”
“Why did she walk so slow? If she has security and is concerned for safety. He moved as fast as she should’ve smh,” a third penned.
A fourth added, “If you peep it’s actually the other dude who’s supposed to be holding the door. He let it go when he saw the bodyguard walk out (who was clearing a path) and didn’t recover in time.”
In 2024, a former bodyguard who once worked security for Rihanna was shot in Dublin in what police believed was a targeted attack.
Geoffrey Keating, 46 at the time, was injured in the Finglas area of north Dublin. He was taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by gunfire. Police confirmed they were investigating the shooting at the, which occurred in December, but never solved the case.
Keating served as head of security during Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour in 2012 and 2013. Photos from the time show him alongside the singer at international venues.
In recent years, however, he claimed he was living under threat due to false rumors that he was a Garda informant.
In an interview with Sunday World last August, Keating said he had received information that a €15,000 contract had been placed on his life.
He claimed he knew who was behind the threat, a man recently released from a Dublin prison, and that he had reported the situation to police multiple times.
“I’m very worried about this,” Keating said in the interview. “I’ve gone back into security mode in my house. I have top-of-the-line CCTV. All approaches to the house are covered. But this threat is very credible.”
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
Keating’s career in private security spanned more than a decade. In addition to his work with Rihanna, he reportedly provided protection services for multiple public figures and high-profile events across Europe.
Police have not confirmed whether the shooting was connected to the reported contract threat.
