The popular South African podcast “Piano Pulse” has officially rebranded to “Music Pulse”, marking a new chapter for the show and its hosts.
The announcement was made during a live reshuffle event streamed on YouTube on Tuesday evening, at Theatre on the Square in Sandton.
The event was hosted by PD Jokes and brought together members of the Podcast and Chill Network, which produces the show.
The podcast, originally launched as “Piano Pulse”, built its identity around amapiano culture, music and industry debates. Over time, it became known for direct commentary and heated discussions.
Critics often described the tone as controversial, with some accusing the show of focusing more on artists’ personal lives than their work. The platform sparked public disputes but also built a loyal audience that engaged with its conversations.
Now rebranded, the show will expand beyond amapiano to cover a wide range of genres, including gospel, hip hop, house, Afro house, maskandi and more. The shift signals a broader editorial direction while retaining the format that attracted its audience.
Chief executive of the Podcast and Chill Network, Bala Dama, said the show had fulfilled its original purpose. He said that it was time for the platform to grow, but to do so while maintaining the same energy and spirit that built it.
The relaunch also introduces Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi as a host. He joins existing hosts Thakgi Ledwaba, Sfiso Ndlovu and Khanyi Mars. Baloyi, a music and media executive, has positioned himself as a strong voice within the South African music business.
He is known for challenging industry practices and speaking openly about record deals and artist management.
“I’m the music business authority. I saw it coming,” Baloyi said.
Ndlovu welcomed the addition, saying, “I think it’s going to work out. Nota is a good addition. The fact that we are now able to tap into any genre gives us more topics to talk about.”
Network founder MacG thanked his team and supporters.
“I want to say thank you to my family, the team behind the scenes that makes everything come to life. I want to thank the sponsors and most of all the ‘chillas’. Without them, this would not exist,” he said.
