An individual has reportedly been detained in relation to the Nancy Guthrie case.

A law enforcement official told ABC News that the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from the FBI, has an individual in custody for questioning in connection with the abduction of the 84-year-old. The source told the outlet that the individual was detained in a location south of Tucson, Arizona, and that police are preparing to search the location linked to the individual.

This breaking news update follows as the FBI released surveillance footage of a masked person approaching Nancy’s front door and tampering with her front door camera on Tuesday, February 10. It comes after an ex-FBI agent revealed the hidden codeword that Savannah used in her message to the kidnappers.

The outlet noted that there’s been no indication that the detained individual is the same figure in the newly released video footage.

Earlier on Tuesday, FBI Director Kash Patel released videos and photos of a masked and “armed” person. “Law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance,” he wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

The videos and images revealed a figure wearing a mask, gloves, a zipped-up jacket, pants, and sneakers. The individual also had a backpack and a holstered handgun. They were also at Nancy’s home around the time that investigators believe she was taken on February 1.

Authorities have previously given a timeline for Nancy’s disappearance, and at 1:47 a.m., the 84-year-old woman’s doorbell camera disconnected. Then, at 2:12 a.m., the camera detected a person. Prior to the release on Tuesday, officials stated they were unable to retrieve the footage. Last week, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a press conference that the footage was not available and that the camera software company had “run out of ways to recover” the video.

Patel shared that the surveillance footage was recovered “from residual data located in backend systems.” He also said that the FBI and the sheriff’s department have been working closely with their “private sector partners” to continue recovering any images or video footage from Nancy’s residence that “may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible.”

The Gutherie family reportedly showed the images before they were released publicly. Per NBC, the FBI released it after family and law enforcement failed to recognize the individual. The federal agency is hoping the public will recognize the person.

Savannah Guthrie, who is Nancy’s daughter, posted the surveillance images with the caption, “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home.”

She made a second Instagram post with the footage, writing, “Someone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home.”

Along with this new development, TMZ reported on the same day that they observed activity in the Bitcoin account used for the ransom for the first time. The outlet and two other local outlets in Tucson were sent ransom notes. The ransom notes demanded millions in bitcoin, with two deadlines: Thursday (February 5) and Monday (February 9). At the time, both deadlines had passed.

Nancy has been missing since February 1, when her family made the report. She was last seen the day prior when she had dinner with family and was dropped off at home.
