Michael Barrymore has over four million followers on TikTok.

Michael Barrymore shared a new TikTok on Tuesdaym March 31, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Stuart Lubbock’s death. Barrymore, once a household name in British television, has cultivated a new following on TikTok, where he now boasts over four million followers.

His content ranges from comedic sketches and trending clips to snapshots of his life in Devon, his love of Fortnite, snack hauls, and KFC reviews. The new video sees the entertainer, 73, showing chocolates, Easter eggs, and sweets in a pan with the text “No Oil No Butter, Just Clean Meal” and a caption reading “I’ve been inspired to eat cleaner #munchies.”

Fans responded enthusiastically, with one commenting: “This is such a niche reference. I’m glad I’m chronically online,” while another added: “So proud. Making healthier choices every day.” A third viewer joked: “I think you may have forgotten to take the wrapper off. But I love that dinner.”

The platform has introduced the former tv personality to a younger audience, many of whom may be unaware of his fame in the 1980s and 1990s, or the tragedy that derailed his career. The turning point in Barrymore’s life came on March 31, 2001, when 31-year-old Stuart Lubbock was found unconscious in the swimming pool at Barrymore’s Roydon home in Essex after a party.

Lubbock later died in hospital. A post-mortem revealed internal injuries and alcohol and drug consumption, while a police investigation followed.

In 2007, Barrymore and two other men were arrested on suspicion of murder and sexual assault but were released without charge. He has consistently denied any involvement in Lubbock’s death.

A High Court later ruled that Barrymore’s arrest had been unlawful, though he was awarded only nominal damages.

The incident effectively ended his mainstream television career, with broadcasters distancing themselves and his public profile diminished for many years.

Despite this, Barrymore has embraced a digital resurgence in recent years.

He told the Daily Star in 2023 that he was the “happiest” and “busiest” he had ever been after gaining renewed attention on TikTok at the age of 71.

He uploads multiple videos daily, featuring clips from classic shows like Kids Say The Funniest Things and Strike It Rich, as well as content documenting his time in Spain, London, and, more recently, Devon.

Since settling in Devon, the former entertainer has been chronicling his daily adventures online. He explores the local area, visits coastal spots, and supports independent shops and eateries.

One ongoing feature of his videos is his so-called “munchie runs.”

Speaking to fans while shopping, Barrymore said: “You can do a munchie run basically anywhere.”

During a recent trip to his local garden centre, he added: “I’m doing one today because the munchies just hit hard,” picking up items including Quiggin’s Kendal Mint Cake, Poppets Mix-Ups, RJ’s Liquorice Allsorts, and the store’s own Traditional Acid Drops.
