The “Turn Down for What” rapper feels “extremely heartbroken” over the loss of his son, DJ Young Slade, 27. Lil Jon shared a statement, thanking everyone for “all of the prayers”

Lil Jon is mourning the loss of his son DJ Young Slade.

The rapper’s son, whose real name is Nathan Smith, was reported missing on Feb. 4 after allegedly running out of his home on foot around 6:00 a.m., and hadn’t been seen since. He was last seen at his home in Milton, Georgia, about 30 miles north of downtown Atlanta.

On Feb 7, authorities announced that investigators had recovered a body believed to be Nathan’s, 27, from a pond in Mayfield Park, near his residence. Lil welcomed DJ Young Slade with his then-girlfriend, Nicole Smith, in 1998. The two married in 2004 but separated in 2022.

In a statement given to The Mirror US on February 6, the 55-year-old rapper, whose real name is Jonathan H. Smith, said, “I am extremely heartbroken for the tragic loss of our son, Nathan Smith.”

Lil Jon continued, “His mother, Nicole Smith, and I are devastated. Nathan was the kindest human being you would ever meet. He was immensely caring, thoughtful, polite, passionate, and warmhearted – he loved his family and the friends in his life to the fullest.”

“He was an amazingly talented young man; a music producer, an artist and engineer, and graduate of NYU.

Lil Jon concluded, “We loved Nathan with all of our hearts and are incredibly proud of him. He was loved and appreciated, and in our last times together we’re comforted in knowing that we expressed that very sentiment to him.”

The Turn Down for What rapper thanked everyone for “all of the prayers and support” in trying to locate his son “over the last several days.”

He also thanked ” the entire Milton police department involved: Detective Dula Milton, Investigators Sergeant Scott Lappin, Detective Randy Dula, Detective Sarah Moore, and Detective Daniel Williams.”

Lil Jon continued, “Sandy Springs police department, Fulton county sheriff’s office, Haralson County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee Fire Department, Forsyth County Fire Department, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia K9 Team Search and Recovery, and multiple volunteers, as well as the Milton Fire Department and Cherokee Rescue and Dive Team, and Craig Brazemen.”

The Milton Police Department stated that there was no evidence of foul play, but that they “will continue to treat this as an open and active investigation,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

Additionally, police stated that until the cause and manner of death are determined by the Fulton County Medical Examiner, no additional information regarding the case would be made public.
