South Africa’s “Mother” is officially hitting the books.

Multimedia powerhouse Lerato Kganyago has traded the DJ decks and TV cameras, at least momentarily, for lecture rooms at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

Earlier this week, the Metro FM DJ sent social media into a frenzy when she posted a glowing photo of herself on the UCT campus.

Looking every bit the chic scholar, Kganyago teased her followers with a playful caption: “1st Day on Campus, what do you think I’m studying? “

The post ignited a wave of speculation among her millions of followers, who are eager to see what the award-winning entrepreneur is adding to her already stacked resume.

Fans quickly took to the comments section to play a guessing game.

“Radiology ,” commented @nttmncube, while another wrote: “It’s giving Law student dress code .”

@bee_zikalala wrote: “My queennnnnI think you’re studying Business Management .”

@malapanetawana bypassed the guesswork to offer some early encouragement: “I am already seeing u in graduation attire.. congratulations, my friend

While her return to university is making headlines now, Kganyago’s educational background is actually what helped her land her first major career break.

Long before she was a household name on Metro FM, she studied Public Relations and Travel and Tourism at Damelin College.

This qualification initially took her in a completely different direction, straight into the sky. She spent several years working as a flight attendant for Qatar Airways and SA Express before the entertainment world came calling.

During her early days at Soweto TV, she didn’t just present; she also learned the technical side of the business, including producing, directing and camera work.

Kganyago has always been vocal about the fact that she didn’t take the traditional “university first” route into media, which makes her enrollment at UCT a full-circle moment for her fans.
