Nearly two years after Taylor Swift dropped The Tortured Poets Department — and its not-so-subtle diss track thanK you aIMee — Kim Kardashian is publicly praising the pop superstar’s music, despite widespread speculation the song was aimed at her.

The unexpected moment of Swifty diplomacy came during a recent episode of Khloé Kardashian’s Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, according to Entertainment Weekly. Khloé asked her sister about her wide-ranging music taste — and specifically whether people would be shocked to learn she listens to Taylor Swift.

How the revenge anthem came about

Kim was front and centre in the infamous 2016 feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye “Ye” West over his song Famous. Swift claimed she was never told she’d be name-dropped with the line, “I made that b—- famous.”

West countered that he’d had “a hourlong convo with her about the line and she thought it was funny and gave her blessings.”

Kim, then married to West, released snippets of that call on Snapchat — a move that painted Swift as dishonest and ignited a brutal online backlash.

Swift didn’t forget

She appeared to address the fallout on her 2017 album Reputation and seemingly returned to it on The Tortured Poets Department. Fans zeroed in on thanK you aIMee, a song whose oddly capitalized title spells out “Kim.”

The track tells the story of a hometown bully named Aimee who “ruined” the narrator’s life — but also made her stronger.

Swift sings: “I wrote a thousand songs that you find uncool / I built a legacy that you can’t undo,” before adding, “But when I count the scars, there’s a moment of truth / That there wouldn’t be this if there hadn’t been you.”

Twisting the knife

Further adding insult to injury, Swift references a future moment where “your kid comes home singing / a song that only us two is gonna know is about you.”

In recent years, Kim and daughter North West have openly posted videos of themselves singing and dancing to Swift’s songs.

After the song’s release, a source told People magazine that Kim was firmly done with the drama. She was “over” it, the source said, and “thinks that Taylor should move on.”

The insider added that the reality star “doesn’t get why (Swift) keeps harping on it,” saying, “It’s been literally years.”

Swift, famously, keeps receipts

In 2020, the alleged full version of the Famous phone call leaked online.

Swift responded on Instagram, writing that it proved she was “telling the truth the whole time” and that “somebody” had “edited and manipulated (it) in order to frame me and put me, my family, and fans through hell for 4 years.”

That sense of being disbelieved appears again on TTPD track Cassandra, where Swift likens herself to the Trojan prophet cursed to tell the truth while no one listens. She sings about being trapped in a cell filled with snakes, imagery many fans interpreted as a nod to Kim’s infamous 2016 National Snake Day post — which dropped just hours before Kim released the Snapchat call.

Swift later reclaimed the snake imagery entirely, turning it into a defining symbol of Reputation.
