Kim Kardashian is in the doghouse with PETA after gifting her four kids individual puppies for Christmas.

The reality star shared the news on her Instagram Stories, posting a photo of the tiny Pomeranians with the caption: “Each kid got a puppy.”

Kardashian shares North, 12, Saint, 10, Chicago, 7, and six-year-old Psalm with her ex-husband, Kanye West.

PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk didn’t hold back, criticising Kardashian for buying the dogs from a breeder rather than adopting from a shelter.

“Puppies are not plushies, and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups and instead is being rightly slammed on social media for that … Ignoring the homeless animals crisis is inexcusably callous,” said Newkirk.

Additionally, Newkirk said that Kardashian can “make some amends now by sending their kids to volunteer at a local shelter.” 

She also suggested the reality star can fund “a local shelter adopt-a-thon or at least one spay day to help stop the growing homeless puppy crisis.”

In a follow-up Christmas Eve vlog, Kardashian defended the decision by showing how much her kids wanted the pets.

In the video, her daughter, Chicago, tells her that a puppy is what she wants “the most” for Christmas. Kardashian also shared that her son Saint had been “begging God” for a puppy during his bedtime prayers.

This isn’t the first time Kim and PETA have clashed.

In 2023, the organisation called her out for keeping her dogs, Sushi and Saké, in a decorated area in her garage.

PETA argued that dogs are “pack animals” who belong inside the house with their family, not tucked away in a separate space.
