Kelly Clarkson explained why she decided to end her talk show.

Two weeks ago, the singer announced that this season of The Kelly Clarkson Show will be her last, saying, “Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this chapter of our lives.”

Last summer, her ex-husband and former talent manager, Brandon Blackstock, died from skin cancer at age 48. They share two children: 11-year-old River Rose, and 9-year-old Remington Alexander. Their divorce was incredibly messy, with Brandon being revealed to be in a relationship with Kelly’s former assistant at the time of his death.

In an interview on the Today show, ahead of a new season of The Voice, Kelly was asked why she’s ending the show. She replied, “I think everybody probably gets the timing.”

“Our family life, the dynamic changed a bit, and it has changed for a minute now,” she continued. “It’s one of those things when you kind of start seeing life as how precious it is, too. It’s like, ‘You know what, I’m really busy.'”

“I work with a lot of people here, too. The crew’s been incredible; it wasn’t that the show isn’t doing well. That’s what kind of sucked, everything was going well, and that’s what was really hard. People’s jobs, [we] are a family there,” she continued. “That was a really hard thing for me, but an easy decision as a momma.”
